This Privacy Policy applies exclusively to situations where Balsam acts as a Data Controller (as defined under applicable privacy laws and regulations) in our direct relationship with individual users. If you are accessing Balsam through an organization that has contracted with us (a “Customer”), Balsam’s role as a Data Processor is governed by our Data Processing Agreement (DPA) with that Customer, available at /dpa.html.

By using Balsam, you acknowledge this Privacy Policy and consent to the practices described. Balsam is not a substitute for professional care, licensed therapy, or crisis support. Users should not use Balsam for any of the Prohibited Topics listed in the Terms of Service, including but not limited to: obsession with another person, isolation, stalking, threats disguised as concern or love, emotional dysregulation, detachment from reality, suicidal ideation, psychosis, extreme paranoia, self-neglect, or cumulative or escalating behaviors indicating danger. If you use Balsam to discuss any of these topics, your access may be suspended or terminated and you will be directed to seek help from a licensed therapist, doctor, or emergency services.
